Indian Summer

I wish I could bottle these days. We are enjoying my favorite season…Indian summer. I just looked up “Indian summer” in the Farmer’s Almanac online, and apparently there are numerous criteria that must be met for “official” Indian summer.

But for me, a string of days in the 80s in the middle of October qualifies. We’re trying to make the most of it. After all, this run of hot weather likely is our last chance.

Last chance to get sprayed with the hose outside.

Last chance to eat a popsicle on the deck.

Last chance to dig for worms in the garden.

Last chance to conquer the play set ladder in bare feet.

And to conquer the slide!

Not so fast…that will have to wait for next summer!

This winter, when the world outside is bleak and frigid, all I will need to do is uncork the bottle that I have saved up. My bottle of Indian summer. There will be enough inside for each of us to feel the warm garden dirt, smell the green grass, and lick the drips from our Firecracker Popsicles.

Indian summer…last chance to save it all up.
